Truths About Dieting

Dieting is a long term commitment where many individuals fail at. Any number of proven diets out there only tell you the success stories. Said weight loss programs never tell their potential customers about the many dieting failures. As I go in my journey to a better life, and moderate some habits, I realize that it is a long road. Hopefully my own past errors and the past mistakes of others will give me better foresight. Nearly a week later, here are a few things I have discovered.

Conclusions I Have Drawn Based on My Diet Experiences.

In general, your body will be rather confused at first, so it is a slow process to train it to accept the new regime.

Caffeine is a more powerful drug then we realize. It may be a gateway drug to other more powerful substances later on. It also can make you rather hungry in some ways. Caffeine is fine in moderation, if you can handle it. I cut it completely out. My body was confused at first, but its now adapting.

Stress may be the real gateway drug however. If an individual watches the news a bit too much, they might come to the conclusions that the entire world is messed up. It is essential to know a little bit about what is going on in the world. To know too much about the troubles in the world is unhealthy. It leads to those who overindulge.

Back to stress for a moment, idle hands and a stressful mind might lead to eating, drinking, or even worse habits. In other words, find a hobby you can do in your free time that keeps your hands busy. If it can make money, so much the better. Mine is writing, others have done other hobbies.

Regular meal times are a good practice. Easier said than done in the high paced world we live in. Modern society is one of instant gratification. While you might be patient, others around you are not. So you start taking shortcuts. Fast food is fine in moderation, a few times a year. I do stress we cannot solve everyone's problems. We need to be a bit more patient.

Three sixteen ounce glasses of water a day seems to be a balance. For those who are unable to do math, that would be six eight ounce glasses of water. The eight eight ounce glasses might work, but I find that I spend too much time in the restroom. Evenly spread them out and sip. Bottled water may be used, but I just prefer tap water with ice.

I vowed to stay away from the scale at all costs. Individuals who want to make goals based on weight, if they can handle it, its great. Most diets fail due to the fact that people get fixated on their weight. So, their is a rush to lose it. That point goes back to the instant gratification society thing I talked about earlier.

As for meals, smaller bites and lower portions will also help. Do not deprive yourself of treats completely but limit them. For instance, one serving of chips a day is not going to kill you. Just keep the bag out of the bedroom or living room. People tend to go on auto polite when they are watching television, on the phone, or on the computer. Those are the worst times to eat.

Exercise is obviously important. Walking is the best type of exercise. Even when the weather is awful, walks still can be done indoors. Make sure to stretch before and after you walk. It helps with the muscles and will lead to less soreness.

I'm sure there will be more conclusions made in the coming weeks. Remember, slow and steady wins the race, and you cannot trip over yourself.
